Featured History:

The Pocono Mountains are situated in the northeast region of the U.S. and run through much of northeastern Pennsylvania. The name Pocono is derived from the Munsee word Pokawachne, which means "Creek Between Two Hills".

In the early 1900s, the Pocono Mountains became a sought-after recreation destination as the elite from New York and Philadelphia began establishing resorts throughout the area.

The earliest Pocono resorts were established in 1901 and 1902, respectively, by members of Philadelphia’s Quaker community and did not allow liquor or dancing on the premises. In 1928, at the height of the Roaring 20s, the Skytop Lodge resort was built in response to the Quaker’s strict recreation policies. To this day, the Lodge remains a popular resort destination.

Once known as the Honeymoon Capital of the World, the Pocono Mountains remain a breathtaking region and is still a destination for outdoor lovers and the occasional honeymooners alike.
